About Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar yoga is named after the modern yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar (1918-2014).  Iyengar yoga is known for its skillful sequencing that promotes health in body and mind, and alignment in the asanas (poses) to prevent and heal injuries or imbalances. Iyengar yoga uses props when needed to support proper alignment, and as a tool for rest and recuperation in restorative and therapeutic yoga.

By attending classes and practicing regularly, students build strength, stamina and flexibility of body, and clarity and poise of mind. Each class is skillfully sequenced so the student can experience peace and clarity within.

In classes you will learn physical postures (asana), pranayama (breath expansion), working with the mind, and about yoga philosophy.  All classes start with meditative sitting and a short chant to cultivate the mind and feeling of gratitude.  Each class has a unique theme or focus. We end class with corpse pose (savasana) for rest and recuperation.
